The Yellow Biquinho is a true explosion of color and flavor! With its bright yellow hue , elegant teardrop shape and ultra-mild spiciness (500 to 1,000 SHU) , it is perfect for those who like chili without the burning intensity. Its slightly acidic and sweet flavor, reminiscent of citrus fruits, makes it an ideal ingredient for exotic dishes, marinades and pickles. Very productive , it offers an abundance of small fruits throughout the season , perfect for a cuisine full of colors and flavors.

Cultivation method

  1. Indoor sowing: Sow seeds 8-10 weeks before the last frost , at a temperature of 25-30°C . Germination takes 10-20 days .
  2. Transplanting: When the plants have 4 to 6 true leaves , transplant them into larger pots before acclimating them to the outdoors.
  3. Planting in open ground: After the risk of frost, space the plants 40 to 50 cm apart, in rich, well-drained soil.
  4. Maintenance: Water regularly without excess, add compost and mulch to retain moisture.
  5. Harvest: About 90 to 120 days after sowing, harvest the fruits when they turn a beautiful lemon yellow color .

Recipe: Yellow Biquinho Chili Chutney

Ingredients :

  • 1 cup Yellow Biquinho peppers, seeded and chopped
  • 2 ripe mangoes, diced
  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions :

  1. Mix all ingredients in a large saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium-low heat until mixture thickens, about 45 minutes.
  3. Let cool and store in sterilized jars.
