Flowering Dogwood - Elegance and Preservation
Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) seeds, offered by the seed company OSC.
This small tree native to Canada, originally from southern Ontario, is a treasure of beauty and rarity. At 3 to 10 m tall, it shines in the landscape thanks to its 4 large white flower-like bracts that appear in the spring. These bracts are actually modified leaves surrounding real flowers. The flowering dogwood thrives in slightly acidic, moist but well-drained soils, often in the forest understory. Classified as endangered in the wild, it is hardy to zone 6 and requires winter protection in zone 5.

How to grow:
Natural seed stratification is best done outdoors during the winter. Sow seeds in the fall in well-drained soil, 6 mm deep. For indoor stratification, mix seeds with moistened, peat-based substrate and refrigerate for 12 to 20 weeks. In the spring, plant in a sheltered, shaded area. Transplant seedlings once they are well-rooted. Flowering dogwood prefers slightly acidic, rich, moist soils.
An ideal choice to add a touch of elegance and contribute to the preservation of a rare species.
