Early Wonder Beet: Tender Red Roots and Quick Growth

Early Wonder Beet (Beta vulgaris), offered by OSC Seeds

The 'Early Wonder' beet is a heritage variety cherished by gardeners for its fast growth and smooth, tender, deep-red roots. Introduced around 1911, it’s perfect for early harvests, leaving space for heat-loving crops. Along with delicious roots, its leaves are excellent as cooked greens.

Spread: Final spacing of 7 to 10 cm after thinning
Plant height: 30 to 45 cm (foliage)
Packet size: Approximately 350 seeds
Companion plants: Carrots, lettuce, onions
Incompatible plants: Spinach, potatoes

How to Grow:

Sow seeds 1.2 cm deep and 2.5 cm apart in rows spaced 30 to 45 cm. For continuous harvests, sow every two weeks once the soil reaches 7°C until mid-July. Thin seedlings to 7–10 cm for proper root development, and use thinned plants as tender greens. Avoid overwatering to prevent excessive foliage growth at the expense of roots. Germination takes 8 to 10 days.

The 'Early Wonder' beet is a top choice for quick and versatile harvests, offering flavorful roots and nutritious greens for every gardener.
