Canadian Tick-trefoil ( Desmodium canadense ), offered by Northern Wildflowers, is a native perennial plant valued for its pink to purple flowers that bloom in clusters throughout the summer.
This robust legume enriches the soil with nitrogen, thus promoting the fertility of the garden. Perfect for natural meadows, borders or difficult areas, it tolerates poor and well-drained soils, with a preference for full sun exposures. Its flowering attracts pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, while bringing a rustic touch to your outdoor spaces.

Cultivation method:
Tick-trefoil prefers well-drained soils and tolerates dry conditions once established. It can be sown indoors or directly in the ground. If you choose to sow indoors, moist and cold stratification is required: mix the seeds with a moist growing medium (vermiculite, perlite, or moss), place them in a plastic bag, and refrigerate for 6 to 8 weeks. Then, sow the seeds about 1/8 inch deep. Alternatively, you can sow directly in the ground in late fall to overwinter.
Space plants 40 to 60 cm apart to ensure good air circulation. Once established, Canadian Tick-trefoil requires little maintenance and is particularly beneficial for ecological gardening projects. It contributes to soil fertility and promotes biodiversity by attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
This hardy plant is ideal for enriching your natural gardens or ecological restoration projects, while bringing vibrant flowering and diverse wildlife to your garden.
