Little pigs (Asclepias syriaca) , seeds by Marie-Victorin

Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is a key native plant for the survival of the monarch butterfly, serving as its primary breeding host. Its sweetly scented pink flowers and decorative green fruits add a natural touch to any garden. This hardy plant thrives in well-drained, low-fertility soils and is easy to grow and can be mixed with other butterfly-attracting plants, such as butterfly weed or lantana. However, it can become invasive in smaller gardens.
