Cultivation method:

Start celery seeds indoors 10 to 12 weeks before the expected last frost date. Sow the seeds on the surface of the growing medium without covering them, as they require light to germinate. Maintain a temperature of 70-75°F (21-24°C) to encourage germination, which occurs in about 3 weeks. Once the seedlings are established, transfer them to a bright location with a slightly cooler temperature of 60°F (16°C).

Harden off seedlings before transplanting to the garden between mid-May and mid-June. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil with an ideal pH of 6.5 to 7.0, spacing seedlings 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) apart in rows 36 inches (90 cm) apart. To blanch the stems and improve flavor, begin gently hilling up soil around the stems when the plants are 12 inches (30 cm) tall.

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture throughout the growing season, as this is essential for optimal stem development. Feed plants with a balanced fertilizer to support vigor.
