Description

Carrot 'Imperator' seeds (Daucus carota), offered by Seed company WH Perron

The 'Imperator' carrot is a variety known for its long, uniform, cylindrical roots, which are ideal for winter storage. Its bright orange flesh and small, very dark heart give it a sweet, crunchy flavour, ideal for eating in salads, cooked dishes or raw as a snack. Growing to 23 to 28 cm in length, this carrot is easy to grow and tolerates a variety of growing conditions, provided it is planted in rich, loose, rock-free soil.

Foliage height : 35 to 40 cm
Spread : 5 to 7 cm
Quantity per sachet : 1000 seeds
Maturity : 63 days
Internal color : Small, very dark heart
Companion plants : Leek, onion, radish, lettuce, tomato
Enemy plants : Dill, celery, parsnips

Cultivation method:

Sow directly in open ground from the beginning of May for an early harvest, mid-June for an autumn harvest or early July for young tender carrots. Plant the seeds at a depth of 6 mm, space the rows 40 cm apart and thin the plants to 5 cm to allow good root development.

Choose loose, rich, well-drained soil that is free of rocks to encourage straight, regular root growth Hill up the soil around the plants to avoid sunburn and prevent greening of the root collar Maintain consistent moisture to prevent roots from becoming woody or cracking Combine 'Imperator' carrots with companion plants such as leeks or lettuce for harmonious growth

Add the 'Imperator' carrot to your vegetable garden for a bountiful and tasty harvest, perfect for enriching your dishes all year round.
