Also known as miniature watermelon, candied cucumber, mouse melon, zehneria and cucamelon, this curious vegetable yields edible fruits that are harvested when they are between 2 and 4 cm long. They are eaten fresh or pickled like gherkins. Russians are also fond of these pickled vegetables, which they enjoy with cold cuts. Their pale and dark green mottled skin is reminiscent of watermelons.
