It is said that this excellent melon for the northern regions comes to us from Siberia and that the Russians cultivated it abundantly. In North America, it made its debut at the New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station in 1901. It has succulent apricot-colored flesh that is very tasty and sweet. In 1937, the seed company McFayden Seeds of Winnipeg, Manitoba described it as the largest of the early varieties. It was once widely cultivated by the Hutterite colonies in Manitoba who sold them at market, but has become rarer today. Oblong, dark green fruits are produced in abundance on a vigorous vine.
