Planting tip: Sow seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost.
Harvesting tip: Late in the summer, the gourd’s skin should be exceedingly hard, impossible to penetrate with a fingernail. Leaving the gourds on the vine until the stem and leaves of the gourd begin to wither and turn brown is also a good indication of ripeness. Remove the gourd, leaving roughly 2″ of stem behind.
