SUPPORT: Tie plants onto support stems as they grow. This will prevent the fruit from touching the ground, reducing disease and improving fruit shape, especially on elongated fruits. Staking also makes harvesting easier.

PRUNING: Pinch the first flowers as they bud. This encourages your plant to put more energy into growing strong stems and deep roots instead of producing new fruit right away. Disinfect your pruning tools to prevent the spread of disease. If you have a dense plant, thin out the leaves to reduce the risk of fungal diseases and remove old leaves from the lower parts of the plant. Remove flowers to retain 5 to 6 fruits per plant for larger eggplant varieties.

WATER AND FEED: Regularly water hot weather plants and those grown in pots once or twice a day. Spray the foliage every day after flowering begins to encourage fruiting. Feed weekly with a liquid tomato fertilizer once the first fruits have set.

Pick the eggplants once the fruits are plump, smooth and shiny, using pruning shears to cut the stem.
