Known for its fast growth and resistance to disease, it offers generous harvests even in less than optimal growing conditions.
Spread : 1.5 to 2 m
Plant height : 30 to 60 cm
Quantity per packet : 10 seeds
Companion plants : Bean, marjoram, corn
Enemy plants : Tomato, Swiss chard, potato
Cultivation method:
Sow 'Sugar Baby' watermelon seeds indoors 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost, in biodegradable pots to minimize transplanting stress. Transplant seedlings to the garden once the danger of frost has passed and the soil temperature is at least 70°F (21°C).
Plant in well-drained soil, rich in organic matter, and in full sun. Space plants 1.5 to 2 m apart to allow them to spread fully. Mulch around plants to conserve moisture and reduce weed competition. Water regularly, but avoid wetting the foliage to reduce the risk of disease.
Harvest melons about 75 to 80 days after sowing, when the tendrils near the stalk are dry and the skin of the fruit becomes dull. The 'Sugar Baby' melon brings a touch of freshness and summer sweetness to any vegetable garden, ideal for lovers of sweet and refreshing fruits.
