The 'Black Spanish Round' radish is an heirloom variety known for its hardiness and cold tolerance . Its black skin contrasts with its milky white , crisp, and slightly tangy flesh. Its round roots, 7 to 10 cm (3 to 4 inches) in diameter, are perfect for winter storage , while retaining their firm texture and intense flavor. Its large leaves are also edible and can be used in cooking. Ideal for fall growing, this hardy radish can be eaten raw, grated, or sliced, and keeps well for long-term enjoyment throughout the winter.

Cultivation method:

Soaking the seeds in warm water for 12 hours is recommended to improve germination. Sow directly into the ground as soon as the soil can be worked in spring or autumn for a winter harvest . Sow to a depth of 12 mm (1/2") , spacing plants 2.5-10 cm (1-4") apart and rows 20-30 cm (8-12") apart. Germination takes 5-7 days at an optimum temperature of 18°C . It tolerates temperatures down to -7°C , making it an excellent option for cool climates.

Harvest and uses:

Harvest when the radish stops holding well in the soil , about 60 days after sowing . For best storage, cut off the tops and store the roots at 1-2°C with 85-90% humidity in ventilated containers . It will keep for 3 to 4 weeks . Enjoy raw in salads, marinated, or even sautéed to soften its spiciness.
