Radicchio chicory 'Variegata Di Lusia' (Cichorium intybus), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

Chicory 'Variegata Di Lusia' is an elegant heirloom variety, renowned for its robust round heads and creamy red and white variegation. Highly prized in Europe, this chicory adds a touch of sophistication to salads with its delicate texture and slightly bitter flavour. Perfect for autumn or spring growing, it adapts well to cool climates.

Days to maturity : 75 to 80 days
Head Size : 3 to 7 inches
Height : 4 to 7 inches
Spacing : 6 to 8 inches
Sowing : Indoor or direct sowing
Exposure : Full sun
Quantity per pack : 2,000 to 2,500 untreated, non-GMO seeds

Cultivation method:

Sow seeds between June and mid-July in successive crops every two weeks to prolong the harvest. Plant seeds 3mm (1/8") deep and space them 2.5cm (1") apart in rows 40cm (16") apart. Once the plants have emerged, thin them to 30cm (12") to allow them to form strong, uniform heads.

For a fall harvest, you can sow between mid and late August. Maintain regular irrigation to avoid water stress, which could cause premature bolting and increased bitterness of the leaves. This radicchio prefers well-drained soils and full sun exposure for optimal development.

An elegant and versatile variety!

Radicchio 'Variegata Di Lusia' is a must-have choice for lovers of Italian chicory. Its round, variegated heads, combining aesthetics and delicate flavor, will bring a refined touch to your dishes. A valuable addition to any garden or vegetable patch.
