Centennial Rocket Tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum ) from Northern Wildflowers, an ultra-early Canadian heritage variety
Centennial Rocket Tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum ) is a Canadian heirloom variety developed to produce ultra-early, flavorful red cherry tomatoes. Adapted to cooler climates, it reaches a height of 2 to 3 feet (60-90 cm) and produces clusters of small, sweet, red tomatoes. This determinate variety, with a growing cycle of only 50 days, provides a quick harvest of tasty fruit, ideal for salads, appetizers or preserves.
Exposure : Full sun
Growth cycle : 50 days to maturity
Height : 2 to 3 feet (60-90 cm)
Type : Determinate, forming bushy plants
Packet Size : Approx 25 seeds
Origin : Canadian heritage, developed in 1967 by the Agriculture Canada Experimental Farm in Alberta for Canada's centennial
Cultivation method:
Centennial Rocket Tomato prefers well-drained soil and full sun exposure for optimal growth. Although it is a determinate variety, it is recommended to start seeds indoors about 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost to maximize yield. Plants should be spaced 18 to 24 inches apart to allow them to grow without crowding each other. Since the tomatoes all ripen at the same time, they are ideal for a concentrated harvest.
With its rapid maturity and delicious taste, the Centennial Rocket is perfect for Canadian gardeners looking for an early, tasty harvest without requiring a lot of care.
