Sow seeds outdoors from late May to June or start them indoors and transplant them once danger of frost has passed. Chives can be grown indoors on a sunny window or under lights during the winter. Outdoors, chives are a low maintenance plant, all you need to do is provide water as needed.
Feed lightly with a general purpose fertilizer as too much can harm the production of the essential oils responsible for taste and smell. Chives are grown for their leaves. Harvest continuously to stimulate growth.
