Asparagus is a famous perennial vegetable whose crown of roots produces long, edible green spears. It tastes wonderful and this variety has been the most popular in nurseries for over a century.
Companion plants: Tomato, Basil, Parsley, Calendula, Petunia, Tagetes.
Away from: Alliums, Potato.
Seeding: Soaking in hot water for up to 12 hours is recommended to improve germination. Start seeds indoors 10 to 12 weeks. before the last frost. Soak the seeds in water for up to 24 hours before sowing them. Once the plants reach 12″ tall, harden them off outdoors for a week.
Harvest: Light harvest in the 2nd year, then regular harvest at the start of the third year.
