This superb strain could be one of those used by the father of genetics Gregor Mendel in his experiments on heredity. It is distinguished by pale lemon yellow flat pods 7-8 cm long and 2-3 cm wide. The young raw pods are delicious while the wrinkled, reddish-brown grains can be dried and added to soups. This rare and very old variety from India is also very ornamental thanks to its very pretty purple-tinted flowers. The 2 m long oars must be grown on a support.
