Leeks are a long-season plant, so start sowing indoors in February and early March. Sow the seed 7 mm (1/4 in) deep in a soilless medium and store at 20°C (68°F) during germination and growth. Transplant the seedlings outdoors later in spring when they are about 20 cm (8 in) tall. Space transplants 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 in.) apart in rows 30 to 45 cm (12 to 18 in.) apart. Seeds can also be sown directly into the garden from April to June
