Sow seeds directly outdoors in late May, then every two weeks until August, or start them early indoors and transplant them once all danger of frost has passed. Basil can be grown indoors on a sunny window or under lights during the winter.
Indoor basil plants do reasonably well if they receive enough bright light. Outdoor basil is a low maintenance and very prolific plant. All you really have to do is provide water as needed. Basil plants are grown for their leaves and flower clusters.
