Its young, tender purple-red leaves add divine flavor to soups, while the shiny black seeds produced by the spectacular wine-red flower spikes can be turned into flour or cooked like corn kernels. The plant grows up to 150 cm high including flower spikes 30 to 60 cm long. It is grown in full sun.
