Its leaves are used in cooking because of their powerful lemony flavor. Planting tip: Seed stratification is required for 2-3 weeks. Sow seed indoors starting 3-4 weeks before the last frost, and transplanting after the frost. The average germination time is 10 days.
Harvesting tip: Once the plant grows several inches tall, you can harvest the leaves at any time. Fresh leaves are ideal. The flowers have the maximum concentration of the anaesthetic action. Harvest spilanthes bloom at any time of year. Deadhead flowers to induce additional blooming. Flowers retain their numbing properties when dried, although they are most strong when fresh.
