Organic 'Caitydid Dwarf' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, a dwarf, compact, bright, and surprisingly generous bicolor variety

The 'Caitydid Dwarf' tomato is a creation of the Dwarf Tomato Project , a collaborative breeding program run by passionate gardeners in the United States and New Zealand. This indeterminate dwarf variety is distinguished by its compact size , ideal for pots and small spaces, while still producing large, bicolored fruits weighing 6 to 8 oz — an impressive feat for a dwarf tomato.

Its fruits display magnificent shades of orange and yellow , often marbled, with juicy, sweet, and balanced flesh, typical of heirloom bicolor tomatoes. It offers excellent productivity for its size, while maintaining a decorative appearance thanks to its compact habit and dense foliage.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before planting out . Sow 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix, at 23–29 °C for germination in 5 to 10 days . During the hardening-off period, reduce watering and nitrogen to encourage a compact habit.

Transplant when all risk of frost has passed. Plant in the ground or in a pot (minimum 3 gallons), spacing 60 to 90 cm (24–36") apart. Provide full sun , regular watering (level 3) , and light to medium staking , necessary to support its relatively heavy fruit.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the fruit is fully displaying its bright orange and yellow hues . To get a head start, pick those showing their first signs of color , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or higher . Store between 12–21°C , at 95% relative humidity , to preserve their juiciness.
